Iran hits key UAE oil port as attacks spread across Gulf
Iran has expanded its attacks on Gulf infrastructure this week, targeting the UAE’s Fujairah oil hub and triggering further disruption near Dubai International Airport. Flights were briefly suspended after a fire linked to a drone incident raised safety concerns in the area.

According to the UAE’s Defence Ministry, air defence systems intercepted six ballistic missiles and 21 drones on Monday. However, officials also confirmed a rocket strike in the Al Bahia area near Abu Dhabi that resulted in the death of one Palestinian national.

At the Port of Fujairah, a drone strike caused a fire in the industrial zone, forcing a temporary halt to oil loading operations while authorities assessed the extent of the damage. The incident has intensified concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure in the region.

The attack has drawn particular attention due to Fujairah’s strategic importance. Located on the Gulf of Oman, the port operates outside the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint, allowing the UAE to maintain crude exports via pipelines from Abu Dhabi even during disruptions in the strait.

Fujairah also serves as a major storage and bunkering hub for vessels heading toward Asia, making it a vital link in regional and global energy trade. Analysts warn that the latest strikes underscore the vulnerability of Gulf energy infrastructure, even at facilities designed to safeguard export flows during periods of heightened geopolitical tension.
